H-P: Well, first off. Why don't you tell us a little bit about the band. A brief history, what planet your from, line-up and how ya came up with your name?
JAMEY: We´ll…I started writing the first tracks in early 2006...
I was looking for new ways to get access to young blood and brains, so a band seemed like a pretty good idea (thinking of the crowd..).
I took out my sturdy old shovel and started digging for some band-members…
The line-up got changed a little over time. Some lost their head, others got shot by the local sherrif….
Up until we finally got the line-up we got now, which is a happy little Zombie family.
The band-name is just the most simple description of who we are… it´s me and the guys that rose up from the grave.
Most of us come from earth, but we set up our Crypts on other planets as well…
I actually just got nice little Apartment near the Van-Allen-Belt.
Lovely Radioactivity there in the summer, I tell ya.
H-P: Now, you have a lot a members, do find it difficult to keep things together at times? Such as planning invasions, booking gigs, writing songs etc…
JAMEY: Most of the planning (especially invasions) is done by myself and from there on I just give orders. Works fine. *evil-grin*
H-P: You ghouls kinda have a unique sound blending punk and metal riffs, gang chorus’, horror samples, go go zombies and a bit of rock n roll thrown in for good measure. What are some of your influences?
JAMEY: When it comes to music, I personally listen to a variety of bands and artists that definately influence me, like "Slipknot", "Stone Sour", "Mudvayne", "Callejon", "Nine inch Nails", "Ministry", "Peter Gabriel", "Danzig", "Johnny Cash",…. i could just go on and on…
But also new Horror Punk bands like "The Crimson Ghosts","The Other" and "Blitzkid" influence me in my writing and understanding of Horror Punk music. And of course, last but not least, "The Misfits" ("Danzig"- and "Graves"-Era), "The Munsters" (The TV Series) is definately also a big influence for me.
H-P: Now let's talk a little bit about your new album, "The Rise of the Dead". Is it the “call to arms” for your minions or Earths epitaph? Can you tell us a bit about the album? Why this title?
JAMEY: *grinning* Yes, it can be understood as a "call to arms"…. We called it "The Rise of the Dead", cause this album will be the first of more to come.
It is our first album and represents our first 2 years as a band, our rise from the grave so to speak…
we could have called it "Chapter 1" or something like that, but that sounds a little dull.
H-P: What is the song writing process for Jamey Rottencorpse?
JAMEY: Since this band is led in a sort of dictatorship, I usually sit down in my own studio in the crypt and write the rough tracks and record the vocals alone.
Then I present the track to the band in the rehearsal crypt, and usually they are forced to like and play it… the songs reach their final form in the rehearsal, then I take each member into the studio and record their tracks. Moldy Oddfingers then mixes the track.
H-P: Do you ghouls plan on making a video to brainwash the people of earth and promote the album?
JAMEY: We will make another video in february (if everything goes as planned) which will feature a song, which is actually not on the album, called "Addicted (to blood)".
H-P: So with world domination eminent do you plan to tour to support the album? A world tour perhaps?
JAMEY: We definately want to do some Gigs outside of germany. But we need the support of local Bookers and Managers, since we do it all by ourselves for the time being, which is not always easy.
H-P: Now you and your ghouls reside in Germany, how's the music scene there? There seems to be a big draw towards horror with bands like The Crimson Ghosts and The Other (to name a few). Is the horror scene there large?
JAMEY: Let me say it like this… the "scene" is wide-spread over Germany, but not very organized.
It also really depends on where in Germany you are… The east of germany, for example, has a bigger scene than the north. We are trying to change that.
H-P: You guys have a huge sound, for the gear Heads out there, what bodies, er… I mean equipment do you guys use?
JAMEY: Hah…! People might be surprised, but we don´t use "the normal" kind of equipment.
For example, we Don´t use any normal guitar-amps… we play fully digital (also on stage) except, the bass.
Mr. Scumbag plays a "Ibanez s-classic" guitar (built in 2000) through a Line6 Pocket Pod.
Slimebag plays a "Ibanez S520" guitar (with custom paint job) through a Line6 Pod HD500.
Riot Earp (the only one with "oldschool" Equipment ^^) plays a "Fender 50s Precision Bass" (Mapleneck) through a "Marshall SuperLead Plexi '73" and "Marshall VBC412".
I (Jamey R.) use a "Shure Beta 58A" mic on-stage… wich is the best stage mic ever, imho.
H-P: When not digging up graveyards, invading planets, or tearing up the stage, what do you ghouls do on your off time (besides eating brains)?
JAMEY: We plan the next dig-ups, invasions and Gigs. Some of us make music in other projects aswell, but I´m not allowed to tell who and where, since members in those projects don´t know that we´re dead….yet.
H-P: Are there any current bands that “rock” your grave?
JAMEY: I can only speak for my part, but i´m totally struck by the "Generation Gore" Album by "The Crimson Ghosts". My favourite Horror album of the last few years! We had the honour of playing a show with them on the "Generation Gore Tour" and will play with them again this year. And of course "Blitzkid"… gotta love Goolsby and TB!
H-P: What's currently in your CD player (or mp3 player)?
JAMEY: "The Crimson Ghosts" - "Generation Gore" / "Blitzkid" - "Apparitional" / "Misfits" - "Famous Monsters" / "Callejon" - "Videodrom" / "End of Green" - "High hopes in low places"
H-P: What does the future hold for Jamey Rottencorpse and the Rising Dead?
JAMEY: More live shows (also some festival shows), Another album, video-clips, world domination.
H-P: Any final words?
JAMEY: Support your local scene, go to concerts, buy music, be creative, check out new bands…. Do stuff and stay horror! Oh, and I want to give a shout-out to all the fiends all over the world that have supported us so far and continue to do so. Thanks!
H-P: Thanks for taking the time to chat with us and we wish you much success...
JAMEY: Thank you for having us on here and for letting me taste your brain… oh by the way, did you like the shake?
H-P: Well Jamey, to be honest, I can't really remember... HA HA
